Top neurosurgeon, 40, jailed for 'predatory' nightclub sex attack

A prominent Missouri neurosurgeon has been sentenced to prison in Scotland after being convicted of a “predatory” sexual attack on a woman at a Glasgow nightclub.

Camilo Molina, 40, received a two-year prison sentence for assaulting a 20-year-old woman at the Kong nightclub in April 2025. He denied the sexual assault charge but was found guilty last month.

Police said the married doctor approached the woman from behind and reached beneath her skirt, touching her without consent.

Molina, who moved to the United States from Colombia and lives in a $2 million home in St Louis, Missouri, was visiting Scotland to attend a medical conference when the incident occurred.

He was arrested following the attack and later stepped down from his high-profile positions as deputy director of spine innovation at Washington University in St Louis and as an associate professor.

Molina also lost his medical license after his conviction. During Wednesday’s sentencing in Scotland, the judge spoke about the dramatic consequences of his actions.

“There have been significant consequences for you in regard to your license to practice medicine and the loss of your home,” Judge Paul Reid KC said.

The judge acknowledged Molina’s standing and the “high regard you hold with your family, friends, colleagues and patients,” but said prison was unavoidable because he “cannot ignore the predatory nature of your behavior.”

Molina told the court that his wife had continued to support him following his arrest and had not left him.

In addition to the two-year prison term, Molina was ordered to remain on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Prosecutors told Molina’s trial that the incident occurred after he and several friends traveled to Scotland for a medical conference.

On April 5, 2025, the group began drinking in Glasgow’s West End at about 7 p.m. before heading to the Kong nightclub to continue the evening.

Prosecutors alleged that Molina posed as a police officer when he encountered the woman inside the club. Molina rejected that claim during his testimony.

He said he had never met the 20-year-old before that night and maintained that “nothing overtly sexual” took place between them at the nightclub.

However, CCTV footage shown to the court captured Molina approaching the woman from across the bar. Prosecutor Leo McGinn said the footage showed him “touch her bum with his hand on the right side.”

“He placed his hand under her denim skirt,” McGinn told the court.

A security guard testified that the woman ‘looked like she was crying’ in the club after the touching.

Molina claimed that he had previously discussed going back to his hotel room with the woman, and said he grazed her skirt in a flirtatious way.

He claimed to ask her, ‘Don’t mind if I put my hand here do you?’ and said she responded that she ‘did not mind.’

Molina claimed that he then left the woman with his friends before he returned to the nightclub, where he was stopped by security and was spoken to before he was arrested.

The surgeon’s defense attorney told the court that Molina was filled with regret over the consequences of the night out, recalling how he was born in Colombia before moving to the US before rising to the top of the medical field.

‘Mr Molina worked really hard and established himself as one of the top surgeons in the country in an extremely complex field. He saved many lives by undertaking complex surgery that others would deem impossible,’ attorney John Scullion said.

‘The consequences of his conviction have been catastrophic as he has resigned from the Washington University Hospital and his license to practice medicine has been revoked.’

Scullion did not immediately respond to a request for additional comments from Our News Outlet.
