GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have arrested 47-year-old Courtney Ricardo Chambers, who is facing accusations of choking a young child, aged 6.
In a detailed forensic interview, the young girl recounted that Chambers became angry with her over her reluctance to complete math problems. She claimed that he slapped her hands, causing her pain, which led her to slap him on the back. As she attempted to flee, Chambers allegedly grabbed her by the neck, squeezing it to the point where she experienced pain, lost her voice, and had to drink water. The child expressed fear that Chambers might repeat the choking incident.
After being read his Miranda rights, Chambers reportedly admitted to the disagreement over the math problems but denied any physical altercation with the child, either striking or being struck by her.
Chambers is now facing charges of child abuse without causing great bodily harm. He has no prior criminal record, and Judge Susan Miller-Jones has set his bail at $40,000.
