Sangamon Co. Coroner ID's weekend homicide victim

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — The Sangamon County Coroner has identified the woman who died following a shooting early Saturday morning.

Jim Allmon, the coroner, reported that 36-year-old Rekeea Jackson-Mason from Chatham was declared deceased by hospital staff at 4:08 a.m., just after her arrival at the emergency department.

An autopsy was carried out on Sunday, with Allmon’s initial findings revealing that Jackson-Mason succumbed to a gunshot wound. Continued investigation is being undertaken by the Sangamon County Coroner along with the Springfield Police Department.

On July 19, around 3:30 a.m., the Springfield Police went to a residence on Holly Drive in Springfield. There, they discovered a female victim, later identified as Jackson-Mason, suffering from a gunshot injury.
