Mica Miller's husband is indicted for shock acts before wife's death

Mica Miller’s tragic story took a dark turn as her husband faces serious prison time, accused of instigating a harrowing campaign against her in the weeks preceding her untimely death.

John-Paul Miller, a former pastor who has since fallen from grace, was charged by a grand jury on allegations of federal cyberstalking and providing false statements to investigators, as announced by prosecutors on Thursday.

On April 27, 2024, 30-year-old Mica was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at Lumbee River State Park in North Carolina. Her death occurred just days after she initiated divorce proceedings.

Supporters of Mica have long voiced suspicions that her husband’s behavior drove her to this tragic end, although the current indictment stops short of directly implicating him in her death.

The South Carolina US Attorney’s Office contends that John-Paul Miller engaged in a relentless campaign of harassment, driven by unfounded suspicions of infidelity, that tormented Mica in her final days.

Miller allegedly made Mica’s life hell because he wrongly believed she was cheating on him.

The indictment includes claims previously uncovered by the Daily Mail, or included in civil lawsuits against Miller by several parties.

‘Miller sent unwanted and harassing communications to his estranged wife until her death,’ prosecutors alleged.

‘The harassing behavior included Miller posting a nude photo of the victim online without her consent, causing tracking devices to be placed on her vehicle, and in one instance, contacting her over 50 times in a single day.

‘The indictment also alleges he interfered with her finances and her daily activities and on one occasion damaged her vehicle tires.’

His reign of terror allegedly began on November 16, 2022, and continued until Mica’s death.

Miller’s harassment intended to kill, injure, harass, or intimidate Mica and put her in ‘reasonable fear of death and serious bodily injury’, the indictment alleged.

The second charge accuses him of lying to federal investigators three times during the probe into Mica’s death, which was later ruled a suicide by the coroner.

‘Federal investigators interviewed Miller about these allegations and Miller lied in his responses,’ prosecutors said.

‘Miller said he did not damage the victim’s tires, when in fact he purchased a tire deflation device online and sent messages to others regarding the victim’s vehicle.’

Miller told federal agents he hired a private investigator to protect Mica from buying guns.

‘In reality, he hired the investigator to cyberstalk her for alleged adultery,’ the US Attorney’s Office alleged.

Then on October 12, 2024, he falsely claimed he called Mica more than she called him when he bombarded her with 50 calls in a day.

Miller also claimed he was never told by police to stop contacting Mica, despite allegedly being given such a warning by a Horry County police officer on March 11, 2024.

The warning followed in incident where Miller showed up at a gas station and tried to talk to Mica as she was fueling up her car.

‘She told him to go away she does not want to talk and then when she pulled her phone out to record he sped off,’ the police report read.

Mica then got a call from Miller on a blocked number and her mechanic found a tracking device hidden on her car.

‘The victim advised me she was afraid for her life,’ the officer wrote in their report.

‘She also advised she blocks his numbers and still gets calls and texts from him on other numbers.’

Miller faces up to five years in prison for cyberstalking and two years for making false statements, plus a fine of up to $250,000.

He will not be arrested and instead issued a summons to appear in court to face the charges. Miller and his lawyer Russell Long are yet to comment on the federal indictment.

Miller stood down as pastor from his church, Solid Rock Ministries, weeks after her death as it was picketed almost daily by protestors.

His home in Myrtle Beach was raided by the FBI last November, but the bureau refused to explain what it was looking for or provide any other information.

Solid Rock was shut down after the FBI raid and its building stripped of its contents and sold for $2.1 million in February.

Despite his paranoia that Mica was unfaithful, he was himself accused of having a long-running affair with Suzie Skinner, whom he married in June.

Miller is accused in court documents of grooming Mica for years before they wed, committing her to hospital to steal her car, and cheating on his first wife with underage churchgoers.

Mica filed for divorce from Miller in October 2023, before they reconciled in February 2024, then again on April 15, 2024, just before her death.

Miller had her body cremated without an autopsy, toxicology report, or gunpowder residue test – which fueled sinister theories about her death.

Mica’s sister Sierra Francis claimed she often said: ‘If I end up with a bullet in my head, it was JP.’

There is no evidence Miller murdered his wife and he has repeatedly denied any involvement, along with claims of abuse or infidelity.

Miller appears to blame much of the saga on several of his former flock whom he named in a biblical rant, dated May 28, printed out and mailed to his enemies and later obtained by the Daily Mail.

‘Out of every single event that has taken place, and every single person that has been in my life – nobody has hurt me or sinned against me as horrible as you,’ he raged.

Miller has also been accused of raping a 15-year-old girl and displaying a continued pattern of 'sexual abuse and predatory conduct for years,' according to lawsuit from last February

Miller is also fighting civil claims, accused in a lawsuit in July of raping a 15-year-old girl in 1998 while working at his father’s church in Myrtle Beach when he was 19.

The accuser – anonymized as ‘Jane Doe’ – claimed Miller sexually assaulted her again more than two decades later in 2023 by forcibly grabbing her genitals in public without her consent.

The woman claimed the most recent alleged attack ‘triggered repressed memories’ of the incident from 1998, of which she previously had ‘no conscious recollection.’

Miller strongly denied the allegations and launched a counter-suit for defamation against the woman, claiming she also posted the allegations on social media, causing him ‘irreparable harm, damage and injury.’

Days later a second woman, known as ‘Jane Doe #2’, sued him and his father Reginald Miller for sexual abuse between 1999 and 2001 starting when she was 14.
