Tragic mystery of gamer, 33, who vanished six years ago, is solved

A passionate gamer who vanished under mysterious circumstances, leaving his apartment unlocked, his PlayStation still on, and his phone charging, has been sadly discovered dead six years later.

Jordan Moray, 33, from Cwmbach in Aberdare, South Wales, went missing without a trace on August 2, 2019, prompting an urgent search effort by police, family, and volunteers to locate him.

Despite their efforts, Jordan was not seen or heard from again, with the police confirming there were no financial transactions made after his disappearance.

Jordan was first reported missing when his worried family visited his home to find it unlocked and his gaming console active, yet his headlamp, backpack, and sneakers were missing.

Police have now disclosed that the 33-year-old’s remains were discovered by a walker near Llwyn-onn reservoir in the Brecon Beacons, ten miles from his residence, but there is still no explanation for how he ended up there.

A coroner has been updated, with police confirming his death is not being treated as suspicious.

His brother Josh paid an emotional tribute to Jordan, who he described as ‘my best friend’, adding ‘my heart is lost without you’.

On a post on Facebook he wrote: ‘As a few of you may know my brother Jordan went missing six years ago.

Police confirmed today that remains found a week ago in the Brecon Beacons were those of Jordan, as his brother Josh paid tribute to his ‘best friend’

‘Just an update, a walker came across human remains in Brecon last week, postmortem was done and it came back to be my brother Jordan.

‘I’ve missed him ever since he went missing, he wasn’t just my brother, he was my best friend. We [did] everything together and I mean everything.

‘He’s been a big loss in my life and always will be. Now my mam and dad can lay him to rest.

‘Love you Jordan Moray, can’t wait to meet you again big bro, my heart is lost without you.’

Jordan’s mother Debbie posted her own tribute, stating: ‘Devastating news after six years and never giving up hope.’

Friend Jason Birch, who helped lead voluntary search efforts for Jordan, described him in a social media tribute as ‘a very fit and capable individual with a lot going for him’, adding that ‘he loved the outdoor life’.

He added: ‘I’m devastated for his family after six long years of agonising doubt and despair.

‘Jordan was very much loved by his family and that was evidently clear when I met them all. My heart goes out to them.’

The family had long believed that Jordan would be found and just weeks ago Debbie made an appeal on the sixth anniversary of his disappearance.

She said at the time: ‘Each day is agony, and I am clinging to the hope that one day he will walk through the door again.

‘Each year is blurring into the next, but we continue to search the places that we believe Jordan might be.

‘Jordan is loved and missed every day. We are heartbroken. I will never give up looking for him and I pray that he is safe and well.

‘I want Jordan to know that no matter the reason he left we are here for him. He is so missed it’s like living a nightmare. It’s never too late for him to reach out.

‘We just want to know that he is safe and support him regardless of the circumstances he may be facing.

‘He is deeply missed, and we so want him back in our lives. I pray that this message reaches him.

‘I’m once again asking anyone who reads this to share Jordan’s photograph and report anything that might help the police in their search.

‘Spreading the word could make the difference in bringing Jordan back to us.’

She added: ‘He’s best friends with his brother Josh, Josh is terrible – looking over the gate constantly to see if he’s coming, constantly. I ask myself all the time why, why Lord why.’

His disappearance was featured on the Channel 5 series Vanished, hosted by Dan Walker, who said: ‘We are trying to work out what happened and where he is now and what we can do to shine a light on that.

‘It was a strange set of circumstances when Jordan went missing because he had a games console still on and his mobile phone on charge.’

A police spokesman said: ‘On Friday, August 29, 2025, South Wales Police received a report of human remains being discovered in a remote area in the vicinity of Llwyn-onn Reservoir in the Brecon Beacons.

‘It has since been confirmed that these remains are those of Jordan Moray, who was reported missing in July, 2019, from his home in Cwmbach, Aberdare.

‘The Coroner has been updated and his death is not being treated as suspicious.’

An inquest is due to be held.
