Trial witness: Lamarre-Condon 'partied at Sandilands' house'

Beau Lamarre-Condon’s childhood friend, Shae Davison, pictured below, resumed giving evidence on Friday morning.

She told the court Lamarre-Condon had guilt-tripped her into using her Instagram account to send Jesse Baird a 1,600-word message in November 2023.

The court heard Lamarre-Condon’s relationship with Baird had deteriorated after Baird allegedly discovered him going through his phone and blocking people.

Lamarre-Condon also began posting Instagram stories that falsely suggested the pair were still together. One post featured flowers and implied Baird had sent them to him.

The stories were visible only to people Lamarre-Condon had designated as “close friends”. Baird was not among them and could not view the posts directly, but others told him about the content.

After Baird discovered the posts and confronted him, Lamarre-Condon sought Ms Davison’s advice.

Lamarre-Condon allegedly admitted to her that the claims were true, saying he had blocked Baird’s contacts, deleted a message from his phone and staged the photograph of the flowers.

According to her evidence, he planned to deny what he had done to Baird rather than tell him the truth.

He allegedly fabricated a handwritten note claiming Baird’s stepfather had sent the flowers to his mother and that the Instagram post had nothing to do with him.

Ms Davison advised Lamarre-Condon to be honest with Baird, and believed he had followed her advice, the court heard.

Lamarre-Condon eventually admitted what had happened. Baird then told him he did not want to see him again.

Lamarre-Condon later texted Davison: “I made my bed and now I need to f***ing lie in the damn thing. At least I was honest and could own my s**t.

“Next time, I just have to be honest the first time.”

On November 22, Lamarre-Condon called Ms Davison and asked to stay at her home because he “didn’t want to be alone”, the court heard.

She said he appeared deeply upset by the breakdown of his relationship with Baird and agreed to let him stay.

Ms Davison told the court Lamarre-Condon arrived carrying an overnight bag and immediately asked whether he could contact Baird through her Instagram account.

“He wanted the message to come from me as one last try to win Jesse back,” she told the court.

She said she felt uneasy because Lamarre-Condon did not want her to read the message before it was sent, citing “medical things he didn’t want me to know”.

“He wore me down,” she told the court.

“He said I needed to send it before my husband got home. I felt a time pressure; it felt like guilt-tripping and using our friendship to get what he wanted out of that.”

She eventually agreed on the condition that he read her the message aloud, excluding the medical details.

Ms Davison said he did read it aloud and had written it as though it came from her. She asked him to edit and remove parts that she felt uncomfortable with.

She told the court he appeared to be making the changes that she requested, but later found out that he didn’t do what she asked.

The text said Lamarre-Condon had been diagnosed with a cancerous growth in his shoulder which may require amputation.

It said he would be in hospital on December 4.

The message read: ‘About a month ago, Beau asked me to go with him to Westmead Hospital where he was told he had cancer in his shoulder.

‘Worst case is he has to get his arm amputated. He was then prescribed medications to prepare for chemotherapy and radiation before his cancer removal surgery.’

The message said the medications were ‘among the strongest you can be prescribed which can impact how a person reacts’.

Lamarre-Condon allegedly wrote, while pretending to be the friend: ‘[Beau] always spoke so highly of you, Jesse and I know there is deep love there …

‘It definitely won’t happen overnight but can 100 per cent come back.’

She said Lamarre-Condon only stayed at her house for about an hour, which surprised her because he had an overnight bag and had said he didn’t want to be alone.

Weeks later, Ms Davison told Lamarre-Condon that she had read the messages after they were sent. She said he appeared ‘annoyed’.

The court heard Lamarre-Condon did go to hospital on December 4. She initially believed it was related to cancer.
