In a stunning display of military might, a fleet of 50 fighter jets launched a massive assault on a clandestine underground bunker in Tehran early Friday. This dramatic operation came just days after the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was unable to retreat to his secret hideout before his demise.
The Israeli Defense Forces confirmed that approximately 100 bombs were unleashed during this powerful strike, which targeted the compound where Khamenei and his key aides were eliminated last Saturday. The bunker, reportedly stretching across several streets, continued to serve as a hub for high-ranking Iranian officials even after Khamenei’s death.
Aerial footage shared by the Israeli military captures the moment the bunker, deemed “one of the Iranian leadership’s most vital military command centers,” was completely destroyed. This strategic facility was positioned directly beneath Khamenei’s heavily fortified headquarters.
The military detailed that the underground bunker was constructed as a secure emergency command center for Khamenei, who was neutralized before he could utilize it to manage war efforts. The site featured multiple entry points and rooms designated for meetings of senior officials within the Iranian regime.
âThe underground bunker was built beneath the compound and was a secure emergency asset for managing the war by the leader, who was eliminated before he managed to use it,â the military said, according to the Times of Israel.
The site â located directly underneath Khameneiâs closely guarded headquarters — had âmany entry points and rooms for gatherings of senior members of the Iranian terror regime.â
The compound is the same location where Israeli fighter jets launched the opening strike of the war â dubbed âOperation Epic Furyâ â a week ago.
Israel used a powerful ballistic missile to turn Khameneiâs building into rubble â killing the despotic cleric, dozens of officials and several members of his family.
Prior to the onslaught, Khamenei was believed to be spending most of his evenings in the deep-underground bunker to shield himself from any attacks.
It comes as the US and Israel continued to batter Iran with nationwide strikes through Friday, targeting their military capabilities, leadership and nuclear program.
Iran, meanwhile, launched missile and drone attacks at Israel, as well as Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain — all countries that host US forces.
