In a heartbreaking incident, a cherished equestrian from Massachusetts lost her life when her show horse stumbled at a jump, resulting in a tragic accident that claimed both their lives.
Chloe Christina Smith, 25, was riding with friends on Friday evening when she suffered a devastating fall from her horse. The incident proved fatal for both Smith and the horse, which sustained a critical neck injury, as confirmed by her grieving family and her obituary.
The young woman from Swampscott was swiftly airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. Sadly, she passed away hours later, surrounded by her family and friends, as reported by Itemlive.
“Chloe … died living her dreams,” her obituary fondly noted.
“Many of us never experience that rare moment when life aligns perfectly, the wind propels you forward, and you have everything you’ve ever desired right before you.”
Her family shared that Smith’s life was tragically cut short just weeks after she realized her lifelong ambition of owning a working horse farm in Berlin. There, she managed 18 horses and animals while training riders, according to reports.
The avid rider, remembered for her ambition and generosity, had only recently moved into the farmhouse.
“Her world was right there,” her father, Jim, said, with her obit branding the devastating accident as a “cruel twist of fate.”
“Her life was horses. That was her love.”
Her older brother, Andrew, told the outlet how much his sister “loved her horses,” adding that “she was thrilled when she opened her own bar just seven weeks ago.”
Smith, a progressive activist committed to social justice and equality, had hoped to turn her farm into a local destination for family celebrations and community events, her family said.
“She said she wanted to live there the rest of her life,” her mother, Abbe, told the outlet, explaining how her daughter’s love for horses started after summers at equestrian camps as a child.
“She wanted to get married there.”
Funeral services will be held on Monday.
